World Waveski Surfing Titles : Day 3

C'est sans nul doute l'événement le plus attendu de l'année. Le rendez-vous est donné à Durban du 26 avril jusqu'au 4 mai aux meilleurs compétiteurs internationaux. Trois ans après ceux de Santa Cruz au Portugal, qui avaient été un véritable succès, c'est pendant une dizaine de jours que chacun tentera de s'envoler vers les finales.

Lundi 28 avril

Nouvelle journée de compétition à New Pier. Le soleil est toujours là, les conditins un peu moins, mais néanmoins suffisantes pour lancer dès 9h30 les premièrers séries du top 32 Open qui seront suivis du premier tour Masters. Toujours le même fonctionnement, les deux premiers de chaque série restent dans le tableau principal, les perdants vont en repêches pour tenter de se qualifier dans le tableau du haut.

Heat 1 : Renan Leloutre (FRA) - Jackie Dillon (AUS) - Lyndon Storer (ZAF) - Gordon Winterburn (USA)

Première série de la journée où Renan Leloutre réitère ses exploits de hier en survolant sa série. Première grosse vague de la journéee notée 8,67, ainsi qu'une autre à 6,77 lui permettent de prendre la première place haut la main devant Jackie Dillon et son petit score de 6,4.

Heat 2 : Doug Copeland (ZAF) - Maxime Gaborit (FRA) - Stefano Bellotti (ITA) - Rory Taylor (ZAF)

Pour la deuxième série de ce top 32 provisoire, c'est Maxime Gaborit qui s'élance sous nos couleurs. Et décidément, Renan a mis le pied à l'étrier pour nos français, Maxime fait quasiment aussi bien en scorant une vague à 8,5 et une autre au dessus de 5 qui le propulse au tour suivant en compagnie de Doug Copeland. 

Heat 3 : Steve Farthing (AUS) - Clément Guilbert (FRA) - Ian MacLeod (ZAF) - Roland Pretnacher (ZAF)

Et les scores s'envolent pour nos français ! Trois séries, trois français premiers. Clément Guilbert assure avec deux jolies vagues à 7,17 et 6,27, battant Ian Macleod malgré une vague à 8,5. 

Heat 4 : Pablo Arrouays (FRA) - Francisco Nascimiento (AUS) - Marty McCann (IRL) - Simon Guastella (FRA)

Première série de ces open où deux français se rencontrent, le canaulais Pablo Arrouays et le breton Simon Guastella se partagent l'affiche de cette série avec Francisco Nascimento et Marty McCann. Et la magie opère encore une fois pour Pablo, régulier, qui finit premier de cette série devant l'australien Francisco Nascimento. Simon finit quant à lui 3ème et rejoint Jean-Michel Bibes au repêchage. 

Heat 5 : Virgile Humbert (FRA) - Willy Graser (ZAF) - Francisco P Saraiva (POR) - Duran Martin (ZAF)

Pas de tableau des scores pour cette série mais Virgile Humbert rafle la mise en scorant un 13,5 final. Cest ensuite Duran Martin qui se qualifie pour la suite. 

Heat 6 : Michael Orsmond (UK) - Nathan Le Bars (FRA) - Sam Jones (UK) - Mathieu Babarit (FRA)

Série la plus attendue de ce Round 4, on espérait que nos deux français Mathieu Babarit et Nathan Le Bars finissent tous deux premiers. Ça a été le cas pour Mathieu qui, avec deux vagues à un peu plus de 6 s'octroie la première place. C'était sans compter sur l'ancien double champion du monde Michael Orsmond qui score la plus belle vague de la série notée 7,67. Malheureusement, ça ne passe pas pour Nathan Le Bars avec seulement 6 vagues au compteur dont la plus haute est notée 6,7. Il part donc aux repêches avec Simon Guastella et Jean-Michel Bibes.

Heat 7 : Andre Burger (ZAF) - Kieron Davies (UK) - Sandra Pienaar (ZAF) - Adolph Van Zyl (ZAF)

Série compliquée que cette septième, peu de vagues sont prises par les compétiteurs. Andre Burger s'impose devant Kieron Davies.

Heat 8 : Ben John (AUS) - Paul Jouet (FRA) - Gus Presa (SPA) - Schalk Van Wyk (ZAF)

Dernière série de ce tour 4 Open où notre français Paul Jouet a mis tout le monde d'accord sur le fait qu'aujourd'hui, la French Team était en grande forme. Il finit deuxième derrière Ben John et ses 14,8 au compteur. 

La journée s'enchaîne avec la catégorie Masters. On y retrouve deux de nos français, Jean-Michel Bibes et Thierry Mouraud.

Heat 1 : Steve Farthing - Mel Hardy - Mark Everd-Hall

Première série Masters où s'impose Steve Farthing devant Mel Hardy, suivi de Mark Everd-Hall.

Heat 2 : Marty MacCann - Lyndon Storer - Jean-Michel Bibes

Deuxième série des Masters où Jean-Michel Bibes se qualifie juste derrière Marty McCann et un beau score de 13.84.

Heat 3 : Thierry Mouraud - Ian MacLeod - Jacques Theron - James Siedle

Attention, troisième série très sérieuse entre notre Thierry Mouraud national et Ian Macleod. Ian Macleod s'impose grâce à une vague notée 8 mais Thierry ne se démonte pas et score suffisamment pour prendre la deuxième place de cette série.

Heat 4 : Gus Presa - Rory Taylor - Grant Kendrick - Wayne Symington

Très peu d'écarts entre les compétiteurs sur cette série. Wayne Symington l'emporte devant Grant Kendrick.

Heat 5 : Doug Copeland - Sandra Pienaar - Nicki Carstens

Dernière série où Nicki Carstens s'impose, suivie de Doug Copeland et de Sandra Pienaar.

C''est ainsi que se termine cette troisième journée de compétition à Durban. Notons les excellences performances de nos français. Au programme demain, les repêches des Open, la suite des Masters voire le lancement des Grand Masters, on n'en sait trop rien. En attendant voici le tableau des repêches des Open :

This is undoubtedly the most awaited event of the year. The appointment is given to Durban from April 26 to May 4, the best international competitors. Three years after those of Santa Cruz in Portugal, which had been a success, it is for ten days each attempt to fly to the finals.

Monday, April 28 

New day of competition at New Pier. The sun is always there, conditins a little less, but still enough to start at 9:30 the first heats of th top 32 Open which will be followed by the first round Masters. Always the same operation, the first two of each series are in the main table, the losers are drafted in an attempt to qualify in the top table.

Heat 1 : Renan Leloutre (FRA) - Jackie Dillon (AUS) - Lyndon Storer (ZAF) - Gordon Winterburn (USA) 

First round of the day Renan Leloutre reiterates his yesterday achievements flying over the heat. First big wave of the day rated 8.67, and another 6.77 allow him to take the first place easily before Jackie Dillon and his small score of 6.4.

Heat 2: Doug Copeland (ZAF) - Gaborit Maxime (FRA) - Stefano Bellotti (ITA) - Rory Taylor (ZAF)

For the second heat of the provisional top 32, that is Maxime Gaborit which dominates under our colors. And really, Renan set foot in the stirrup for our Frenchies, Maxime is almost as well by scoring a wave at 8.5 and another above 5 which propels the next round with Doug Copeland .

Heat 3 : Steve Farthing (AUS) - Clément Guilbert (FRA) - Ian MacLeod (ZAF) - Roland Pretnacher (ZAF)

And scores soar for our Frenchies ! Three series, the three Frenchies are first. Clément Guilbert provides two nice waves at 7.17 and 6.27, beating Ian Macleod despite a 8.5 wave.

Heat 4: Pablo Arrouays (FRA) - Francisco Nascimento (AUS) - Marty McCann (IRL) - Guastella Simon (FRA)

First round of French Open where two meet, the canaulais Pablo Arrouays and the breton Simon Guastella share this poster heat with Francisco Nascimento and Marty McCann. And magic still operates once for Pablo, regular, who finished first in this heat before the Australian Francisco Nascimento. Simon finished third and meanwhile joined Jean-Michel Bibes in the repercharges.

Heat 5: Virgile Humbert (FRA) - Willy Graser (ZAF) - Francisco Saraiva P (POR) - Martin Duran (ZAF)

No scoreboard for this heat but Virgil Humbert takes all final by scoring 13.5. This is then Martin Duran who qualifies for the future.

Heat 6: Michael Orsmond (UK) - Nathan Le Bars (FRA) - Sam Jones (UK) - Babarit Mathieu (FRA)

The most expected heat of the Round 4, it was hoped that the two French Mathieu Babarit and Nathan Le Bars end both first. That was the case for Mathieu with two waves at a little over 6 grants itself the first place. This was without counting on the former double world champion Michael Orsmond who score the best wave of the set denoted 7.67. Unfortunately, it does not pass for Nathan Le Bars with only 6 waves at which the highest is rated 6.7. So he went to the repercharges with Simon Guastella and Jean-Michel Bibes.

Heat 7: Andre Burger (ZAF) - Kieron Davies (UK) - Sandra Pienaar (ZAF) - Adolph Van Zyl (ZAF)

Complicated than the seventh round is, little waves are taken by competitors. Andre Burger wins ahead Kieron Davies.

Heat 8: Ben John (AUS) - Paul Toy (FRA) - Gus Presa (SPA) - Schalk Van Wyk (ZAF)

Last series of this Open round 4 where our French Paul Jouet has made everyone agree on the fact that today, the French team was in great vibe. He finished second behind Ben John with 14.8 points.

The day continues with the Masters category. It includes two of our French, Jean- Michel Bibes and Thierry Mouraud .

 Heat 1: Steve Farthing - Mel Hardy - Mark Hall Everd

 First Masters heat where Steve Farthing won before Mel Hardy, followed by Mark Everd Hall.

Heat 2: Marty McCann - Lyndon Storer - Jean-Michel Bibes

Masters second heat where Jean-Michel Bibes won just behind Marty McCann with a beautiful score of 13.84.

Heat 3 : Thierry Mouraud - Ian MacLeod - Jacques Theron - James Siedle

Attention third very serious heat between our national Thierry Mouraud and Ian Macleod. Ian Macleod won by a 8 wave but Thierry doesn't disassemble and score enough to take the second place in this heat.

Heat 4: Gus Presa - Rory Taylor - Grant Kendrick - Wayne Symington 

Very little difference between the contestants on this heat. Wayne Symington wins before Grant Kendrick. 

Heat 5: Doug Copeland - Sandra Pienaar - Nicki Carstens

Last heat where Nicki Carstens won, followed by Doug Copeland and Sandra Pienaar.

It's the end of the third day of competition in Durban. Awesome performances of our French Team today. Program of tomorrow, the Open repercharges, following the start of Masters or Grand Masters categories, we don't know much about it. In the meantime here is the table of the Open repercharges :
